Major Flooring Works
Project Start: January 2016
Works Duration: 5 weeks
When SSH Building Services were asked to provide a quotation for major flooring works for a Healthcare site in London, we did not hesitate to accept.
A large NHS Trust in London provided us with a brief, and we exceeded all expectations from the initial quotation, through to planning and implementation.
Our extensive knowledge of Healthcare facilities made SSH the obvious choice when it came to providing new flooring across a range of Wards.
Some Wards included in the Specification look after people with Dementia. SSH provided a choice of colours specifically designed for use with people who have dementia.
The Facility had been used for over 20 years, and was in serious need of a refurbishment. Phase one of the project was to refurbish one of the units, which included the complete rip-out of the existing flooring & wall protection.
Floors within Dementia Wards must be very safe underfoot (especially when wet), and also slip-resistant and sparkle-free, so as not to confuse people with dementia. Colours need to be neutral, with no patterns or ambiguous designs that can potentially upset patients, and finishes must be matt and muted. There also needs to be good contrast between floors and walls.
To make the space look less clinical and more welcoming we wanted to bring nature inside, by using natural-looking designs and products, wood effects, images of trees and flowers etc. And of course all the products need to be easy to clean and maintain long-term.
SSH completed the project on time and to budget, with a further four phases coming up within the next 12 months.
